Chicago Dog

Known as the “Depression Sandwich”, this hot dog with a wealth of toppings only cost a nickel in the 1930s and supplied nourishment on the cheap. The Chicago dog has evolved and become part of Chicago’s cultural identity.

Ingredients

4 Hot dogs 

4 Hot dog buns 

3 tablespoons Chicago or Sweet relish 

3 tablespoons Yellow mustard 

8 Tomato wedges 

8 Dill pickle spears 

8 Sport peppers 

½ White onion, finely diced 

¼ teaspoon Celery salt

Instructions

1. Preheat grill on high.

2. Reduce to medium and grill hot dogs while warming buns on upper rack.

3. Open hot dog bun and add hot dog.

4. Top hot dog with a spoonful of relish and drizzle of yellow mustard.

5. Top with 2 tomato wedges, 2 pickle spears, 2 sport peppers, and spoon on onions.

6. Garnish with a sprinkle of celery salt
