Potato Cheese Soup



2 tbls butter
4 oz chopped ham
1 cup onion
1 cup chopped carrot
8 cups chopped potatoes
3 cups chicken broth
1 cup beer
3/4 cup gruyere cheese
3/4 cup chedder cheese
1/2 cup 2 percent milk


melt butter in a large saucepan over med heat. Add ham, onion and carrot. Saute 5 to 10 min. Cook covered 10 min. Add potatoes and broth. Cover and simmer 20 min. Pour half soup into food processor and process till smooth. Return to saucepan. Add beer and cheese and cook till cheese melts. Add milk
