Marinara Sauce


1 28-oz can of good crushed red tomatoes 4 garlic cloves peeled, whole, smashed 6-8 fresh basil leaves, torn or shredded 1 Tablespoon olive oil Crushed red pepper flakes (optional) Salt to taste

Heat olive oil in a sauce pan over medium heat. Add the smashed garlic and red pepper flakes and cook until garlic is golden, but not burnt (1-2 minutes). Add the can of crushed red tomatoes and basil leaves an cook over medium-low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour sauce (including the whole garlic cloves) into a food processor and pulse until garlic is chopped and sauce is desired consistency. Add salt to taste and serve over your favorite pasta!
