Savory Ham and Apple Braid
Creamy cheese and smokey ham are baked up in the ultimate comfort food dish that's simple and satisfying.

INGREDIENTS
2 granny smith apples, cored, peeled, and diced
1 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
1 pinch salt
8 oz. ham steak, cubed
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 x 13.8 oz. containers refrigerated pizza dough
1 large egg, beaten
1 teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Stir together apple, brown sugar, and lemon juice in a small saucepan. Place pan over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5-6 minutes, or until apple is tender. Remove pan from heat and let cool 10-15 minutes until slightly warm. Once cooled, pour cooked apple, ham, and cheddar cheese in a large mixing bowl, and stir until combined.

Roll out one container of pizza dough into a rectangle measuring approximately 7 inches by 14 inches. Spread ham-cheese mixture down the center of the dough, leaving 1/2 inch space of plain dough around all edges.

Roll out the second container of dough into a rectangle measuring approximately 8 inches by 16 inches. Slice rectangle length-wise into 8 thin strips of roughly the same size. Cut dough strips width-wise into 4 even pieces, until you have 32 small strips of dough.

To braid dough, attach the end of one dough strip to the right-hand side of the loaf closest to you. Stretch dough as you pull it across to the left side, then pinching to attach to other side of loaf. Repeat on the opposite side, crossing second strip of dough over the first. Continue until entire length of loaf has been covered with criss-crossed dough.

Brush top of loaf with beaten egg, then sprinkle with thyme. Place in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, until cheese has melted and top of loaf is golden. Remove from heat and let sit 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
