Apple Butter Spread

Apple Butter Spread"


5 cups or 8-12 tart cooking apples, unpeeled, cored and cut up (or enough to fill crock pot)
1/2 Cup sugar or 1/2 cup Splenda
1 Cup apple juice, apple cider or cranberry juice
2 1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground allspice
pinch of salt


Core and cut apples into 1 inch pieces. An apple slicer makes easy work, then just chop and toss into a sprayed crock pot. Mix the sugar with all the spices and drizzle over apples in layers. Pour juice over the top. Cook on low for for 10-12 hours. Doing this before bedtime and when you awake, it is done. Allow to cool and blend in food processor/blender until smooth. Can be added to oatmeal, pancakes, french toast, yogurt for smoothies or used as a kid's dipping sauce for carrots, etc. Delish and easy, plus it makes your home smell wonderful and everyone will want some. If you find it too sweet, mix with some no sugar added applesauce.Put in cleaned baby food jars or canning jars for guests to take home.
