They reverse the patented SmartPower blade. Chop spins the sharp edge for soft, wet foods like onions, herbs, garlic and dips. Grind spins the blunt edge for hard, dry foods like peppercorns, whole spices and parmesan. One blade, two jobs.

Pour it through one of the openings in the cover while the blade is running. Use one opening at a time and leave the other free so air can escape and the liquid flows smoothly. That steady stream is what emulsifies dressings and dips.

Cut ingredients to a uniform half-inch to inch and fill the bowl about two-thirds full. Use short one-second pulses and scrape the sides between them if needed. Pulsing is what gives you control, from a coarse chop all the way to a smooth puree.
