They reverse the patented auto-reversing SmartPower blade. Chop spins the sharp edge for soft, wet foods like herbs, onions, nuts and dips. Grind spins the blunt edge for hard, dry foods like hard cheese, peppercorns and whole spices.
Pour it through one of the two openings in the cover while the blade is running. Use one at a time and leave the other free so air can escape. Adding oil in a slow, steady stream is how pesto and dressings emulsify.
Cut ingredients to a uniform half-inch to inch and fill the bowl about two-thirds full. Use short one-second pulses and scrape the sides between them if needed. Pulsing is what gives you control, from a coarse chop all the way to a smooth puree.
