A cortado is very similar to a latte, but instead of being heavy on milk, it calls for equal parts espresso and milk and has no foam on top.

Ingredients

  • 1espresso capsule
  • ¼cup milk (dairy or nondairy)

Preparation

  1. 1. Put the espresso capsule into the unit.
  2. 2. Put the milk into a heatproof mug. Hold
  3. the mug in one hand and place under the
  4. steam wand so the bottom of the wand
  5. is just below the surface of the milk at an
  6. angle. Select the Steam function and
  7. press the START/STOP knob to start
  8. steaming. While holding the mug at an
  9. angle, allow the steam to move the milk
  10. around. Once the milk begins to increase in
  11. volume, lift the mug up higher so the steam
  12. wand immerses deeper into the milk (this
  13. will prevent large bubbles from forming and
  14. will make a nice fine milk foam). When the
  15. foam has almost reached the top of the
  16. mug and you can feel that the milk in the
  17. mug is quite hot, press the START/STOP
  18. knob to stop steaming. Tap the mug a few
  19. times to remove any larger bubbles.
  20. 3. Place one mug underneath the brew head
  21. and select Single Espresso. Once the
  22. espresso has finished brewing, slowly pour
  23. a small amount of the steamed milk, about
  24. 1½ to 2 ounces, into the mug with the
  25. espresso.
  26. 4. Serve immediately.
