They reverse the patented SmartPower blade. Chop spins the sharp edge for soft, wet foods like onions, herbs, garlic and dips. Grind spins the blunt edge for hard, dry foods like peppercorns, whole spices and parmesan. One blade, two jobs.
Cut ingredients to a uniform half-inch to inch and fill the bowl about two-thirds full. Use short one-second pulses and scrape the sides between them if needed. Pulsing is what gives you control, from a coarse chop all the way to a smooth puree.
Pour it through one of the openings in the cover while the blade is running. Use one at a time and leave the other free so air can escape. For mayonnaise, run on Chop and add oil slowly until it emulsifies.
