Grandpa Bert's Stuffing

My dad's traditional recipe for stuffing. He would have been 102 this year, and this was the dressig he made every year for Thanksgiving.

2 packages of sage and onion stuffing mix
2 Sticks of unsalted butter, melted
3 cups of low sodium chicken broth
2 packages of pork sausage
1 large yellow onion, chopped
3 stalks of celery, chopped
2 cups of applesauce, (preferably homemade)
1 tsp fresh ground black pepper
2 tsp kosher or sea salt

Optional add ins:
dried cranberries
golden raisins
cooked wild rice

Brown sausage, add onion and celery and cook until veggies are almost soft. Put in large bowl, add stuffing mix, butter, applesauce, salt and pepper and chicken broth, and mix lightly. Bake inside turkey or in oven at 350. (You can also put this in a slow cooker, on low, for about 4 hours).
