Oatmeal Cookies

" Yummy, spicy, chewy oatmeal cookies that are especially good with dried cherries and chocolate chips!"


12 T. margarine or butter, unsalted
1/4 c. sugar (1 3/4 oz)
1 1/4 c. brown sugar (10 oz)
1 egg
2T water, if using butter; 1 T water if using Margarine
1 t. vanilla
2/3 c. flour (3 oz)
1 T cinnamon
1 t. nutmeg
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. baking soda
3 c. quick oats
1 c. raisins, dried cherries, chocolate chips, nuts, etc. (“add – ins”)


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment.

Cream butter and sugars. Add egg and vanilla.
Whisk together salt, baking soda and flour; add to creamed butter mixture. Stir in oats and “add-ins.”
Drop on cookie sheets two inches apart.

Bake 15 – 18 minutes. Let sit on cookie sheet 1 - 2 minutes then remove to cooling rack.
