This is the perfect base for any rice bowl. Top with protein and crunchy vegetables and seasonings.

Ingredients
- 1strip kombu*
- ¾cup water
- 1½cups short grain brown rice
- 2garlic cloves, smashed and roughly chopped
- 1½-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
- 3cups chopped kale (any variety)
Preparation
- Put the kombu and water into a small bowl or a measuring cup and allow to sit at room temperature overnight.
- Put the soaked kombu and water along with the rice, garlic
and ginger into the glass cooking pot. Secure lid. - Select Grains, set timer for 45 minutes and press Start. After 40 minutes, press Pause and add the chopped kale. Secure lid, press Pause and allow to finish cooking.
- When timer expires, carefully remove the kombu. Once cool to
the touch, chop and add back to the rice mixture. Stir to combine and serve. - *
Kombu is a dried kelp and can be found in the Asian section of most grocery stores. It adds a flavorful saltiness to the rice.
