¾ cup soy sauce
¾ cup water
¼ cup sugar
1 1-inch piece fresh ginger
1 tablespoon sesame oil
2 teaspoons cornstarch
¼ cup cold water

Put soy sauce, water, sugar, ginger and sesame oil in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and then turn down heat to simmer for about 10 minutes.
Whisk together cornstarch and cold water, and then whisk into simmering sauce to slightly thicken.
