This is sweet and tart at the same time. It is a nice variation of the usual cranberry sauce. It is a great substitute for mayonaisse on a turkey sandwich. It is good on pork or chicken as well. Makes a nice spread with cream cheese on crackers.
Yields
12 to 15 (1/4 cup size) servings
Ingredients
¾ cup sugar (or honey)
1 cup water
½ cup port (sweet red) wine
¼ teaspoon Roasted Saigon cinnamon
¼ teaspooon freshly ground nutmeg
½ cup dried tart cherries
1 - 12 oz. package cranberries
⅔ cup chopped walnuts
½ cup crystalized ginger
grated zest of one orange

Instructions
Combine sugar, water, port, cinnamon and nutmeg in saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add cherries and cook for 1 minute. Stir in cranberries, return to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat. At this point you can add the walnuts, ginger and grated orange peel. Serve at room temperature or chilled.
