Who doesn’t love a big bowl of macaroni and cheese? Here we use the air fryer to not only speed up the process but also to give it a crunchy topped finish.
Ingredients
- 1 pound macaroni
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt, more as needed
- Salt, for pasta water
- Butter, for the pan
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened and cut into 8 pieces
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup water
- ½ teaspoon ground mustard
- Pinch freshly ground black pepper
- 8 ounces shredded cheese, preferably a mix of Monterey Jack and Cheddar
- 2 tablespoons plain panko breadcrumbs
Preparation
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add salt to taste, and then add the pasta. Cook for 3 minutes, and then drain immediately.
- Butter a 9-inch pan and then add the parcooked pasta. Top with the cream cheese, milk, water, salt, mustard, and pepper. Stir well.
- Preheat the air fryer to Bake at 350°F and set to 10 minutes. Once preheated, add the pan to the basket, select Toss Reminder, and press Start/Stop. When the Toss Reminder sounds, stir the mixture well and then return to finish cooking.
- At the end of cooking time, add the shredded cheese and stir well. Top with the breadcrumbs and then set to Air Fry at 375°F for 5 minutes.
- Remove the basket from the air fryer. Let the macaroni and cheese rest for a few minutes before serving.
