My dad's traditional recipe for stuffing. He would have been 102 this year, and this was the dressig he made every year for Thanksgiving.
My dad's traditional recipe for stuffing. He would have been 102 this year, and this was the dressig he made every year for Thanksgiving.
2 packages of sage and onion stuffing mix
2 Sticks of unsalted butter, melted
3 cups of low sodium chicken broth
2 packages of pork sausage
1 large yellow onion, chopped
3 stalks of celery, chopped
2 cups of applesauce, (preferably homemade)
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt
Optional add ins:
dried cranberries
golden raisins
pecans
mushrooms
cooked wild rice
truffles
Brown sausage, add onion and celery and cook until veggies are almost soft. Put in large bowl, add stuffing mix, butter, applesauce, salt and pepper and chicken broth, and mix lightly. Bake inside turkey or in oven at 350. (You can also put this in a slow cooker, on low, for about 4 hours).
