Instructions

Directions Unwrap the hard candy and sort them according to their colors. Use a hammer, or food processor to crush the candy into very fine, tiny pieces or powder. Place candy pieces into separate bowls and set them aside. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Add the eggs and the vanilla and mix well. Finally, add all of the dry ingredients and mix until the dough is able to knead into a firm ball. Place drops of green food coloring into dough and knead with hands, until the dough reaches the desired shade of green. Using a flour-coated rolling pin, roll out dough onto a floured table surface, until desired thickness. Using a Christmas tree cookie cutter, cut dough into tree shapes. Place each cookie onto a cookie sheet that has been covered with parchment paper. Use a straw to poke “ornament” holes into different areas of the Christmas tree. Can use different size straws to produce different size ornaments. Bake in 350 degree oven, for 4-5 minutes. Remove cookie sheet from oven and use a small spoon, or fingers, to place different crushed candy colors into each hole. Place cookie sheet back into oven and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes (check after 2-3 minutes), or until candy “ornaments” are completely melted. Can add more candy in the holes, if necessary, since the pieces will melt down and settle. Remove the cookies from the oven and place them on wired rack to cool. Use either melted chocolate or canned frosting to attach the star sprinkles on top (if desired). Enjoy!
