Ingredients

  • 1yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 1¼teaspoons salt, divided
  • ¼cup water
  • 24ounces ground beef
  • ½teaspoon freshly ground
  • black pepper
  • 4slices Gruyère cheese
  • 4brioche rolls

Preparation

  1. 1. Combine the onion slices, 2 teaspoons of
  2. the oil and ¼ teaspoon of the salt in a bowl.
  3. 2. Turn on the Cuisinart® Griddler®. Select
  4. Smoke-Less mode and set both plates to
  5. Beef.
  6. 3. Once preheated, put the onions on the
  7. upper griddle plate of the Griddler®. Set
  8. the count-up timer and cook for about 15
  9. to 20 minutes, stirring from time to time
  10. with a heatproof spatula, until onions are
  11. soft. Once the onions are soft, add 1 to 2
  12. tablespoons of water to the onions and stir
  13. until water evaporates. Repeat until onions
  14. are very soft and caramelized, about 10
  15. more minutes,
  16. adding water as needed. Remove from
  17. griddle and reserve.
  18. 4. When the onions are just soft, form the
  19. ground beef into 4 even-sized patties, 6
  20. ounces each. Sprinkle both sides evenly
  21. with the salt and pepper. Brush with the
  22. olive oil. Add the burgers to the bottom grill
  23. plate, and cook, about 5 minutes on each
  24. side, or until desired doneness. Top with
  25. cheese and transfer to plate to rest.
  26. 5. While the burgers rest, split the brioche rolls
  27. and place onto the upper griddle plate, face
  28. down. Cook until lightly toasted, about 2 to
  29. 3 minutes.
  30. 6. Top each burger with some of the
  31. caramelized onions and serve in the
  32. toasted rolls.
