Gourmet Hamburgers

A flavorful twist to a favorite for a Labor Day or anyday cookout. Reheat leftovers on medium power in microwave the next day, or freeze for later enjoyment."


1 1/2 lbs. lean hamburger
1 small onion (1/4 cup), finely chopped
1/4 cup Burgundy or other red wine
1 Tbs. Worcestershire Sauce
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2-3 Tbs. fine bread crumbs (until mixture holds together for shaping)
6 buns


Mix all ingredients except buns.
Shape mixture into 6 patties, about 3/4 in. thick.
Grill for 10-15 minutes, turning once until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees.
Add buns, cut side down, for the last 2-3 minutes.
Optional: Add cooked bacon and/or cheese.
