Serve with fresh sugared strawberries and whipped cream. This is the best angel food cake ever. Great plain also.
1 1/2 C. sifted powdered sugar
1 cup sifted all purpose flour
1 1/2 cups egg whites (11 or 12 lg eggs)
1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
1/4 tsp almond

Separate eggs, use whites only. Let whites come to room temp.(tip:use only glass or metal bowl) In separate bowl, sift powdered sugar & flour twice. In large bowl beat whites, cream of tartar and salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar about 3 tbsp at a time. continue beating at high speed until stiff peaks form. Sift 1/4 flour mixture at a time over whites; fold in lightly by hand. Spoon into 10 inch pan. spread evenly. DO NOT GREASE!!! Bake on lowest rack of oven @350* for forty min. Cool inverted on a glass soda bottle. Best to make early in day, since it needs to cool completely in pan before removal.
