flour, lard, and ice water for the pie crust.
6 med to large Granny smith apples
1 to 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries,i look for the largest berries I can find
½ cup blueberry pie filling
fresh squeezed lemon juice
dark brown sugar
Pre heat oven to 400 degrees. Make pie crust for a 8 or 9 inch pie.
Peel, core, and thinly slice apples. I usally sprinkle fruit fresh produce protector on sliced apples to prevent browning of apples.
Mix together in small bowl 1½ cups granulated sugar, ½ cup of brown sugar, about 4T cinnamon, 3T nutmeg, 2T cloves, ¼ cup corn starch, toss into apples.
mix pie filling: ¼ cup lemon juice, ¼ cup melted butter, mix into apples and pour into pie crust.
Put on top crust, pinch and flute pie crust edges, do milk or egg wash on top crust, lightly sprinkle a mixture of cinnamon and sugar on top of crust, poke holes in top crust to let steam escape.
Bake at 400 degrees for about 45 minutes, till crust is golden brown, cover edges of crust with a ring of foil ot prevent burning, reduce heat to 325 and continue baking till pie begins to bubble, approx. 20 to 30 minutes longer.
