Very large chocolate chip cookies
¾ cup sugar ¾ c. brown sugar, packed ½ cup butter, softened ½ cup vegetable shortening 2 large eggs 1 teaspoon. vanilla 2 -¼ c. all purpose flour 1 teaspoon. baking soda 1 teaspoon. cream of tartar ¼ teaspoon. salt 1 - 12 oz. bag (2 cups) semi-sweet chocolate chips additional granulated sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees In large mixing bowl, cream together the sugars, butter and shortening until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs, one egg at a time, beating well after each addition. In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt. Add dry mixture to the creamed sugars, blend well. Fold in chocolate chips. To make monster cookie, form ¼ cup of dough into a ball. Roll in additional sugar and place on greased baking sheet. With fingertips, press each cookie ball into a 4 inch circle. Bake 12-14 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove cookies from oven and cool on baking sheet for 1 minute. Place cookies on wire rack and cool completely.
