This pie has so much natural flavor texture! The berry's really come through thanks to the addition of some lemon zest! You can make your own crust or take our recommendation and buy Mrs calenders deep dish! they are so good no one will know the difference!
Tastes like it took hours and hours to make apple blackbery pie
3 cooking apples pared sliced cored and chopped to the size you like (I use gala)(DO not use apple pie filling!!)
1 pint blackberry's
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp nutmeg
zest of one lemon
1/2 stick of butter cubed in small cubes.
(egg wash..)
2 eggs
1 tablespoon water
Prep time...15 min
Cook time 45 min to one hour
Total time: 1 hour 15 min
Heat oven to 350
in a zip lock bag mix the sugar, all purpose flour, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg.

-in a large bowl add apples, blackberry's, and lemon Zest then toss till mixed.

-slowly toss in flour, sugar, spice mix into the bowl until fruit is lightly coated. Fruit should still look a little wet. Discard or save any extra flour mix.

-Pour floured fruit mixture into a an uncooked deep dish pie shell. (I recommend Mrs. Calenders)

-Dot the top of the pie with the butter cubes.

-If you want a top crust place one on now.

I use a sheet of ready made pie dough for the top..i take cookie cutters and cut designs in the top crust. Take that cut out crust and place on top of pie..cut off excess on sides....and pinch the top to the bottom all the way around...then take the cut outs and glue them back on in a lovely pattern using a drop of water for the glue...

(to do egg wash)

in a small bowl whisk 2 eggs and a tablespoon water. when thoroughly combined use a pastry brush to apply to top crust.

Bake at 350 and Enjoy the complements!!!
