Chocolate Crinkles

A sweet chocolate confection that everyone loves. Not overly sweet nor overly fudgey. But nice rich soft flavor."


½ cup vegetable oil
2 cups all-purpose flour
4 squares unsweetened chocolate - melted (4 oz.)
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup confectioners’ sugar


Preheat an oven to 350°F.
Grease two baking sheets with butter.
Mix oil, chocolate, sugar. Blend in one egg at a time until well mixed. Add vanilla.
Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt into oil mixture. Chill for a couple of hours or overnight.
Drop by teaspoonful into confectioners sugar and roll in sugar and shape into balls. Scrape the dough off the spoon into the palm of your other hand, and roll the dough into a ball.
Place the balls on the prepared baking sheet.
Repeat until all the dough is used and space the balls two inches apart.
Bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes. (They will be cracked and puffed.)
Remove the baking sheets from the oven with oven mitts and set it on a wire rack to cool for 15 minutes.
When cooled use a metal spatula to move the cookies onto the rack and let cool.
