Ingredients

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 4large eggs
  • 2cups whole milk
  • 1cup heavy cream
  • 1tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¹/³cup pure maple syrup
  • 2teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼teaspoon salt
  • 1pound challah bread, cut into
  • 9 x ½-inch strips
  • 2tablespoons packed light brown
  • sugar, divided
  • 2tablespoons unsalted butter,
  • cut into ½-inch cubes

Preparation

  1. 1. Lightly coat the baking pan with
  2. nonstick cooking spray.
  3. 2. Stir together the eggs, milk, heavy
  4. cream, vanilla extract, maple syrup,
  5. cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a medium
  6. mixing bowl. Whisk until foamy.
  7. 3. Tightly fit half of the challah strips into
  8. the bottom of the baking pan. Pour half
  9. of the egg mixture on top and evenly
  10. dot with half of the brown sugar. Repeat
  11. with the remaining bread, layering in the
  12. opposite direction of the first layer of
  13. bread. Pour the remaining egg mixture
  14. on top, dot with the remaining brown
  15. sugar.
  16. 4. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for
  17. at least 2 hours, or overnight.
  18. 5. Remove the baking pan from the
  19. refrigerator and bring to room
  20. temperature. Place on the Cuisinart®
  21. Stack5® base and dot the top of the
  22. strata with the butter; cover.
  23. 6. Set the temperature to 200°F. Bake for
  24. about 2 hours. The strata is finished
  25. when the internal temperature reaches
  26. 160°F.
  27. 7. Remove and serve immediately.
