When you can’t decide if you want French toast or a waffle, with Cuisinart you can have it both ways! Serve with little bowls of maple syrup for dipping.

Ingredients

  • 6large eggs
  • 1½ cups milk (any variety will do)
  • 1tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1pinch ground nutmeg
  • 1to 2 pinches kosher salt
  • 11-pound loaf brioche, sliced into
  • 1x4-inch strips (to fit the waffle
  • stick grid)
  • maple syrup, for serving, preferably
  • warmed

Preparation

  1. 1. Put the eggs, milk, vanilla, maple syrup,
  2. cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Whisk to fully combine and pour into a 13 x
  4. 9-inch baking dish.
  5. 2. Add the bread slices, turning so both sides
  6. are saturated. Allow to soak for 30 minutes.
  7. 3. When ready to cook, preheat the waffle maker
  8. to setting 4. The waffle maker’s ready light will
  9. illuminate green to indicate it is ready to use.
  10. 4. Place one soaked strip of the bread into each
  11. waffle stick section. Close the lid; the green
  12. indicator light will turn off. When the green
  13. indicator light turns on again, the French toast
  14. sticks are ready. Open the lid and carefully
  15. remove the French toast sticks. Break apart
  16. into individual sticks and serve immediately.
  17. 5. Repeat with remaining pieces.
  18. 6. French toast sticks are best served straight
  19. from the waffle maker. (If not being consumed
  20. immediately, they can be kept warm in a
  21. single layer on a rack in a 200°F oven.)
