Ingredients

  • 2ounces cream cheese, softened at room
  • temperature
  • 2tablespoons powdered sugar, plus extra
  • for dusting
  • 1small baking apple, peeled, cored,
  • and chopped
  • 1tablespoon brown sugar¾ teaspoon cinnamon, divided
  • 4slices brioche-style sliced bread (even
  • better if you can find a cinnamon variety)
  • 1egg
  • ½teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2tablespoons milk or cream
  • melted butter for brushing
  • powdered sugar for dusting
  • whipped cream for serving

Preparation

  1. Mix together softened cream cheese and
  2. powdered sugar until smooth; set aside. Combine
  3. chopped apple, brown sugar and ½ teaspoon
  4. cinnamon in a microwave-safe bowl and cook for
  5. 2 minutes, stirring halfway. Apples will be tender
  6. and saucy. Evenly spread the sweetened cream
  7. cheese on 2 slices of brioche bread, leaving at
  8. least a ½-inch border around the edges. Top with
  9. 3 tablespoons of the cinnamon apples, followed
  10. by the remaining two slices of bread.
  11. Preheat the Cuisinart® Sandwich Maker. While unit
  12. is preheating, beat together egg, vanilla extract,
  13. milk and ¼ teaspoon cinnamon. Lightly brush the
  14. plates with melted butter. Dunk each sandwich
  15. into the egg mixture, letting any excess drip off,
  16. and carefully place onto the preheated Sandwich
  17. Maker. Use firm pressure to close lid; lock and
  18. cook. Green indicator light will go off and red light
  19. will come on (this may not happen immediately).
  20. When green indicator light reappears, sandwich is
  21. cooked. Add 15 to 30 seconds additional cooking
  22. time if a toastier sandwich is preferred. Remove
  23. with a heatproof silicone spatula. Allow sandwich
  24. to cool slightly for 2 to 3 minutes before serving,
  25. as filling will be very hot. Serve with any leftover
  26. cinnamon apples, a dusting of powdered sugar,
  27. and whipped cream
