These homemade buns are perfect for those times when you just want everything extra special. Using these for a burger or a fillet of of fish adds much more than a place to hold protein! The sesame seeds and the garlic sea salt give a flavor punch while the basil infused throughout the bun adds the savory note.
HomeMade Burger Buns
3/4 cup + 2 Tbsp warm water (around 110 degrees)
2 Tbsp softened butter
1 whole egg + 1 egg yolk (reserve egg white for wash)
3 1/2 cups All Purpose Flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup fresh basil (coarsely chopped)
1 1/4 tsp salt
1 Tbsp instant yeast
Sesame Seeds in a shaker
Garlic Sea Salt in a grinder

Egg Wash is egg white from 1 egg and 1/4 cup of water whisked together.
Put all of the dough ingredients into a large bowl and mix and knead everything by hand into a soft, smooth dough. Knead the dough twice, letting it rest for about 5 minutes between kneadings.

Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour and a half or until it has doubled in size.

Smack the dough down and divide it in 8 equally sized pieces. Shape each piece into a round ball. Throw each rounded dough ball straight down on the counter. This will make each ball flatten out into a nearly perfect round bun.

Press down on each bun to about a 1/2 inch of thickness. Put the buns on a lightly greased baking sheet, cover and let rise for about an hour.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Brush each bun with the egg wash and sprinkle the sesame seeds on top. Use the grinder to add the garlic sea salt at the same time.

Bake the buns at 375 degrees for 18 minutes or until the tops are a golden brown.

Cool the buns on a wire rack.
