Shaker Pickles


6-10 cucumbers 1-2 onions 3 1/2 cups sugar 3 cups white vinegar 1/3 cup canning salt 1 tsp alum powder 1 tsp celery seeds 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp turmeric

Slice washed, unpeeled cucumbers and 1-2 onion. Layer both into 1 gallon glass jar. Heat rest of ingredients until very hot, but not boiling. Pour over cucumbers and onions. Cover with a tight fitting lid and shake. Shake daily for 7 days. Keep in refrigerator for up to 1 year.
