The first time you travel with your new baby is as terrifying as it is momentous. Parenthood is stressful - you more than deserve a break, and you know it. However, it can seem difficult to take an R+R getaway with a baby on board. There’s so much to think about! Luckily, we’ve put together some key travel tips so you and your little one can jet set comfortably this holiday season.

1. If you’re driving, take breaks.
Car journeys can be rough and tiring for an infant, so it’s important to make frequent stops to stretch some limbs. Not only is it essential for your baby to stay rested and comfortable, it’s also better for you. You’ll need your energy to be fully geared up for the days ahead of you.

If traveling by airplane, take walks up and down the aisles. It’s vital to keep your blood flowing during long trips, and baby will enjoy the change of scenery, too.

2. Bring out the jammies.
To ensure maximum comfort throughout your journey, dress your baby in easy-to-remove pajamas. If he or she gets cold, you can simply add on layers. When you reach your destination, you can take out all the adorable holiday wear you planned.

3. Carry your baby hands-free.
Be sure to bring a carrier or sling so that you can tote your baby with ease. This way, you’ll have your hands free for carrying luggage and the various travel items you’ll need for a comfortable journey. You’ll also be able to better navigate your way through busy holiday crowds at the airport without a bulky stroller.

4. Don’t forget toys and pacifiers!
As far as entertainment goes, older children have their tablets and you have your novels. So, don’t leave baby out by forgetting to carry his or her favorite toys. It’s also essential to create a sense of familiarity when bringing your baby to a new environment. If that means toting a zoo of snuggly animals, so be it!

5. Snacks for baby – and you – are indispensable.
It’ll be key to keep up your energy during your trip, so make sure to have extra snacks handy. Be sure to bring your breast pump if you use one and plenty of formula. A hungry baby isn’t conducive to anyone’s idea of a restful vacation!
