The Joys of Pizza: A Global Phenomenon

Americans eat approximately 100 acres of pizza each day or about 350 slices a second, according to pizzaware.com, an industry website that tracks sales and consumption of this popular food. In the U.S., 93% of Americans eat at least one pizza per month, but the popularity of pizza is a global phenomenon with pizza toppings often reflecting regional and cultural preferences. For example, in France a popular pizza combination is called the Flambé with bacon, onion and cream. §         Once the pizza is done, a pizza peel (a wooden shovel-like tool) can be used to insert and remove the mesh from the oven.  The peel also doubles as a tool to cut and serve pizza.
