Grandma's Mint Bars
Ingredients
Grandma's Mint Bars
Serving Size: One 9x13 baking pan
Layer 1: The Brownies
1 cup sugar
½ c butter, room temperature
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
1 tsp salt
1-16 oz Hershey syrup can (Don't try and substitute this - it makes the recipe. They still sell the cans, normally near the ice cream aisle at the grocery store)
Layer 2: The Mint Filling
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
2-3 tbsp milk
1 tsp peppermint extract
1/4 tsp green food coloring
Layer 3: The Chocolate
6 oz semi sweet chocolate, morsels or squares
6 tbsp butter
Instructions
Layer 1: The Brownies
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
2. Grease a 9x13 baking pan.
3. Beat together all the ingredients.
4. Pour into 9x13 pan and bake for approximately 25 minutes or until thoroughly cooked through.
5. Let cool completely.
Layer 2: The Mint Filling
1. Beat together sugar, butter, and milk.
2. Add peppermint extract and food coloring and beat again.
3. Spread on top of completely cooled brownies and chill.
Layer 3: The Chocolate
1. Using a microwave or double broiler, melt chocolate and butter together.
2. Pour on top of mint filling and chill.
3. Cut into squares and enjoy in the company of family and friends this holiday season.
