Grandma's Tomato Soup

This is a wonderful soup. Quick to make and has a nice rich flavor enhanced by the Paprika & clove roux. My grandmother made this quite frequently and we loved it so much."
Ingredients
2 large cans Tomato Juice
1 Onion, Med (minced)
½ Stick Butter
3 tbsp Flour
1 Tbsp Paprika
1 Tsp Salt
½ tsp. Pepper
1 tsp Cloves, ground
1/3 c. Sugar
Dumplings
6 tbsp. flour
2 eggs, beaten
2 tbsp. butter
Instructions
In large saucepan, melt butter and saute’ minced onion till transparent and soft. Add flour to make roux. Add Paprika, Salt, Pepper and Cloves to roux. Let roux cook a little til golden (not brown). Slowly add Tomato Juice to pot. Add sugar. Let soup simmer about ½ hour to get the best flavor from the spices.
Directions for dumplings:
Mix with fork until well blended. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto boiling soup. Cover with lid 15 minutes. Serve immediately. Makes a very light and fluffy dumpling.
