Italian Style Chili

Delicious chili with an Italian kick!"

Ingredients

1 Tbsp olive oil
1 lb hot Italian sausage
1 medium onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 lbs lean ground beef
1 lb ground turkey
1/2 cup rose wine
2 Tbsp. chili powder
2 28 oz. cans crushed tomatoes
1 small can tomato paste
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. dried thyme
1/2 tsp. fresh ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cumin
1 Tbsp. sugar
2 15 oz. cans black beans, rinsed and drained
salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

Heat large pot and add olive oil and sausage, removed from casing, breaking it up as it browns. Add onion and then garlic as onion starts to sweat. Add a bit of salt and pepper. Add ground beef and turkey, mixing well with what's in the pot. Add 1 Tbsp. chili powder. After meat has browned, add wine and scrape the bottom to get all browned bits mixed in. Add tomatoes and paste and mix well. Bring to a slow boil and lower heat to simmer. Add 2nd Tbsp. chili powder, paprika, thyme, nutmeg, cumin and sugar. Simmer for 45 minutes and add beans. Simmer another 30 minutes. Taste for additional seasoning.
