Austrian Chocolate Balls


2 squares (2 oz) Unsweetened Chocolate
1/3 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1 egg plus 1 yoke
1/2 tsp vanilla or almond extract
1 1/3 cups Unbleached or All Purpose flour
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts

1 square (1 oz) unsweetened chocolate
1 TBSP butter or margarine
1/4 tsp vanilla or almond extract
1 cup powdered sugar
2 to 3 TBSP milk


Melt chocolate square and butter in medium saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat.

Stir the sugar, egg & egg yolk and the extract into chocolate mixture; blend well.

Gradually stir in flour and nuts.

Shape dough into 3/4" balls; place on ungreased cookie sheet about 1-inch apart. Bake at 350 for 8 to 12 minutes until firm to the touch (do not overbake). Immediately remove from cookie sheet, cool.

For the glaze:
In same saucepan, melt chocolate and butter. Remove from heat. Add remaining ingredients; blend well. Dip tops of cookies into glaze to cover. Allow to dry completely before storing cookies tightly covered with waxed paper between layers of cookies. 4 dozen cookies.
