Savory Rustic Meat Pie
A hearty meat and vegetable casserole.
1 ½ cups bread crumbs
1 teaspoon sage
8 tablespoons butter, divided use
1 medium onion, diced
1 cup sliced mushrooms
2 lbs. ground beef
1, 10 ounce package frozen chopped spinach
¼ lb. ham, julienne sliced
2 tablespoons chopped chives
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
½ cup bacon crumbs
Salt and Pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 350*. Grease 13”x9” baking dish with 2 tablespoons butter. To make the crust, mix breadcrumbs, sage and 6 tablespoons of melted butter together. Salt and pepper to taste. Pour the breadcrumb mixture into the greased baking dish, press evenly on the bottom and along the sides to form the crust.
To make the meat pie filling, sauté the mushroom and onions until the onions are translucent. Set aside. Sauté the ground beef until browned, breaking the larger pieces apart with a spoon. Put the mushrooms, onions and ground beef together into a bowl, add the spinach, ham, chives, eggs and 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese. Salt and pepper to taste. Mix together, pour into the crust lined baking dish and spread out evenly.
To make the topping, mix the remaining shredded cheddar cheese and the bacon crumbs together. Sprinkle over the top of the meat pie.
Cook for 45'- 1 hour until top is golden brown.
