Fried Apples

This dish always leaves your serving bowl scraped clean! Make extra!
Fried apples are an overlooked American food. From tots to seniors, breakfast to dinner, your house to my house-- they have an amazing appeal. "

2-3 pounds of apples, washed, peeled, cored and sliced
1/2 cup coconut oil
2T butter
1cup sugar
1 or 2 teaspoons each ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg
Salt water

Put the raw sliced apples in a bowl of cold salt water as you prepare them. This will prevent browning of the raw apple. Drain when ready to cook them.
Put coconut oil and butter in a large skillet and heat the skillet till butter is melted. Add the apples, put sugar and spices on top. Stir gently to mix. Fry them slowly till soft and cooked. Sometimes they will caramelize if you find a good sweet apple. Sour or tart apples tend to turn to applesauce. Brown them to your taste. Enjoy at any meal.
