Mama's Chili

This recipe is a family favorite. A wonderful sweet chili balanced by smoky cumin and chili pepper! Even better the next day!"


1 lb hamburger
1 lb ground pork
28 oz can crushed tomatoes
28 oz can petite diced tomatoes
10 oz can Rotel (mild or hot depending on your taste)
15.5 oz can Black Beans
15.5 oz can Light Red Kidney bean
15.5 oz can Dark Red Kidney beans
1 large onion chopped
3 garlic cloves chopped
1 Tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon smoky cumin
Salt and pepper to taste

Condiments: Sour Cream, Cheddar Cheese, Tortilla chips or Saltine Crackers, chopped or torn lettuce.


Brown and drain hamburger and ground pork.
Drain and rinse black beans and kidney beans.

Place browned meat, tomatoes, rotel, beans, onion, garlic and spices in large stock pot and slowly heat to simmer. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer with lid on for 30 - 45 minutes. Stir often so bottom doesn’t burn.

To serve ladle chili into a soup bowl, add sour cream and cheddar cheese (if desired). Serve with Tortilla chips or Crackers.

Taco Salad: place chopped romaine lettuce in bowl, ladle on 1 cup of hot chili, add condiments and serve with tortilla chips.
