holy crimini burger

A succulent burger preparation with a very Italian influence and the wonderful center of Cremini mushrooms and melted Fontina cheese."

Ingredients

FOR THE BURGER:
1 lb. 80-20 ground beef
½ lb. sweet Italian sausage, casing removed
½ tsp salt
½ tsp coarse ground pepper
¼ tsp garlic powder
1 egg, beaten

FOR THE FILLING:
8 oz Cremini mushrooms, sliced
½ medium onion, sliced
¼ cup olive oil 2 roma tomatoes diced
1 tbsp fresh garlic
Salt/pepper to taste

Other ingredients:
4 good quality onion rolls split
4 slices of Fontina cheese
Shredded Romaine lettuce

Mayonnaise


Instructions

Combine the burger ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly.
Form the meat into 8 patties, set aside.

Heat the oil in a sauté pan. Add the onion and garlic, cook until translucent. Add the mushrooms and cook for 3-5 min longer. Add the diced tomato and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Remove from heat and cool.

Divide the mushroom mixture between four of the patties.

Cover with remaining four patties and pinch perimeter to seal.

Place the burgers over medium hot grill and cook for 4-6 min per side.

ASSEMBLY:
Just prior to removing place a slice of Fontina cheese on each burger.

Place the split onion rolls on the grill to toast.
Remove the rolls and place a burger on each.
Top with chopped romaine and mayo, serve.
