Pie Crust for 5 Pies

Mom loved to make pies. She would make 5 different pies with this recipe. Sometimes she would have us peel apples and use two bags of dough - one for the top crust. Rhubarb pie would be on the menu in spring."

Ingredients

4 cups flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cup shortening (not oil, margarine or butter)
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 egg


Instructions

Sift flour, sugar and salt. Cut shortening into flour. Beat water, vinegar and egg separately. Add to other ingredients. Divide into 5 portions and shape flat. Put each into a baggie. Chill one hour or freeze and let thaw 1/2 hour. Roll and use as pie dough.
