Midi's Old Style Apple Cake
User Submitted Recipeheart warming
“
I remember my mom doing this cake since I was little in the first house I remember. The pleasant smell while it was in the oven and the lovely taste. What always caught my attention was how she would cut the apples and couldn't wait to do it myself someday! She would peel the apples, cut them in four and then make several fast incisions on top of each piece. Sometimes I did helped arrange them on top. It is such a classic but simple cake!!"
Ingredients
1/2 c. melted butter
3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
pinch of salt
1 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp lemon peel
2-3 medium apples, peeled
Instructions
In a separate bowl mix the flour with the baking powder, baking soda and salt and set aside. Beat the butter with the sugar. Add the eggs one at the time. Add the lemon peel. When nice and fluffy slowly add the flour mix. Beat until all combined and smooth. Pour in a greased and floured cake pan. Cut the apples in four making several fast incisions on top of each piece and arrange them on the cake.
Bake at 350 for 25 minutes and until a wooden toothpick comes out clean.
