An absolute hit. For a crowd, I poured sauce over entire bread pudding and put under broiler."


l loaf French bread, cubed
1 qt half and half
2 Tbl unsalted butter, room temp
3 lg eggs
1 1/2 c sugar
2 tsp almond extract
3/4 c golden raisins
3/4 c sliced almonds

For Sauce:
8 Tb unsalted butter
1 c confectioners sugar
1 egg, well beaten
4 Tbl Amaretto


Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease 9x13 glass dish with butter.
Place cubed bread in a large bowl and cover with half and half. Cover bowl and let sit for 1 hr.
in small bowl, beat eggs, sugar and almond extract. Stir in bread mixture, fold in raisins and almonds. Spread evenly in baking dish. Bake 50 mins. until golden brown. Remove and cool.

For Sauce:
In top of double boiler over simmering water, stir butter and sugar until dissolved and hot.
Remove from heat and whisk the egg well into the mixture. Continue whisking until sauce comes to room temperature. Add Amaretto and mix well.

To Serve:
Preheat boiler. Cut pudding into squares and place in flat shallow dish. Spoon sauce over pudding squares and broil until sauce bubbles. Serve immediately.
