Raisin Curli Cuties

This is a light pastry type dessert that goes will with a cup of coffee or hot tea. The recipe has been around since the late 1960's. My sister-in-law made these in her high school home economics class in South Kingston Rhode Island."

2 cups all purpose flour, sifted
1/3 cup of sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

2/3 cup seedless raisins
1 large egg, beaten
1/3 cup milk

1/4 cup butter
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon maple flavoring

Preheat oven 375°

Mix together all dry ingredients. Cut in butter until it is pea size. Add raisins and mix lightly. Whisk egg and milk together, combine with dry mixture.
Turn out on floured board and knead.
Separate into two, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Roll out dough into approx. 6”x 15” strip. Spread half the topping over half the dough, fold over and press edges together. Cut into approx. 12-13 1/3 in strips. Twist each strip once or twice and place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375° for 10-12 minutes.
