This recipe has been handed down in my family for generations. I don't know its origin, but we make it every Christmas! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!! It's crunchy and gooey at the same time and gets better the longer it sits!!! Just keep it covered so it doesn't dry out."

Ingredients

2 1/2 C. flour
2 1/2 C. raw oats
1 1/2 tsp. soda
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 C. firmly packed brown sugar
2 C. butter - melted
2 C. chopped pecans
Filling
2 boxes chopped dates
1 C. sugar
1 C. water
1 tsp. vanilla


Instructions

Sift flour, soda and salt together in a separate bowl. Add oats, pecans and brown sugar. Mix well. Pour butter into mixture and mix until all ingredients are thoroughly saturated. Spread half of the mixture in the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan. Press into the pan.
Filling:
Put all ingredients into a medium sauce pan and cook until dates are melted and thicken. Stir regularly. Pour into pan over the pressed oat mixture and spread evenly. Top with remaining oat mixture like a crumble. Cut into desired size squares. Enjoy!
