Chocolate Almond Toffee

Best Toffee Ever
My Great Garndmothers Toffee recipe. Gets raves from those who try it."


1 lb. Butter
2 1/2 cups Sugar
2 pkgs. sliced almonds toasted & crushed (bake at 350 for about 8 min)
8 oz. semisweet chocolate
8 oz sweet chocolate


Melt butter in a heavy bottomed saucepan. Stir in sugar. On medium heat, stir until temp. reaches 310 on a candy thermometer (hard crack) Do not let bottom burn. This will take some time.

Pour onto a foil lined 11 X 15 baking pan. (Use Reynolds Release foil) Pan will get hot, rotate pan to get an even layer. Allow to cool and harden

In a double boiler or microwave, melt 4 oz of sweet and 4 oz semisweet chocolate. Pour over cooled toffee. Evenly spread with spatula and sprinkle immediately with almond pieces. Let set.

When set, turn over and add the 2nd half of chocolate and almonds. Let set.

Break apart.( I use a screwdriver and hammer to get small pieces.) Keep refrigerated.
