Gooey BarsUser Submitted Recipe
3 c. flour
1 tsp. lemon zest
2/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 sticks (20 T.) butter
1 (14 oz.) can Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 cups (12 oz. pkg.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts
HEAT oven to 350°F. Spray 13 x 9-inch baking pan with no-stick cooking spray.
Put flour, lemon zest, the sugar and salt in a food processor. Pulse once or twice to mix. Cut butter in pieces and add to processor. Pulse until mixture resembles coarse meal.
Beat egg lightly. Pour in egg with processor running. Process until large crumbs form. Remove 2 1/2 cups of the crumbs and set aside. Continue to process mixture just until dough is smooth. Press this dough into prepared pan.
Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over crumb mixture. Layer evenly with chocolate chips, coconut and nuts. Press down firmly with fork.
Sprinkle with reserved crumbs. Bake until edges brown, 40 to 45 minutes. Let cool completely before cutting.
Cut into bars or diamonds.
