Molasses Wine Drop Cookies
User Submitted Recipe
“
My late mother-in-law's prized cookie recipe; when I make it for my husband and his siblings, they go nuts."
Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour (unsifted)
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon salt
1 scant cup shortening (Crisco), melted and cooled
1 cup molasses
2 teaspoons baking soda dissolved in 1 cup cold water
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 scant cup raisins (optional)
Instructions
Cover baking sheets with aluminum foil and spray lightly with nonstick cooking spray. Combine all ingredients and refrigerate for at least an hour or overnight. Drop batter by tablespoons on prepared baking sheets. Bake at 375°F about 10 minutes or until browned; watch to make sure the bottoms don't burn. Cool on wire racks. This recipe makes a lot of cookies--I always freeze half and bring them out once the first half is gone.
