Mom's Old Timey Stack Cake

(Mom always used her iron skillets to make this cake)"
Ingredients
3 cups flour
1 tsp. ginger
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. soda
1 cup molasses
1 pinch salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. allspice
1 cup shortening
1 tsp. cloves
5 eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
4 to 5 apples
Instructions
Measure buttermilk in large cup,add soda which will make it foam to twice it's volume.(set aside)
cream butter and sugar,add eggs and molasses.
Sift all dry ingredients and add alternately with the buttermilk. Flour and grease 4 round 9"cake pans.(Mom always used her iron skillets to make this cake)
bake at 400" for 10 minutes or until cake springs
back when you touch the center. Cook about 4 to 5 apples in water and when the water is evaporated
add cinnamon and sugar to taste. Spread between the cake layers.
