Ultimate Wheat Waffles with Easy Berry Syrup and Ice Cream

The waffles alone make a delicious everyday breakfast. Add the berry syrup and ice cream for an extra special holiday breakfast or desert. The waffles also freeze beautifully and are ready to go with just a quick trip in the toaster."


1 Cup AP Flour
3/4 Cup Wheat Flour
2 Tsp Baking Powder
1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
1/2 Tsp Salt
2 Beaten Egg Yolks
2 Cups Milk
1/2 Tbs Lemon Juice*
1/2 Cup Cooking Oil or melted shortening
2 Stiffly beaten egg whites

Berry Syrup
1/2 Cup orange juice
1/4 Cup sugar
2 Cups fresh or frozen berries of your choosing
1 Tbs vanilla or 1 vanilla bean

1 Cup of Your Favorite Vanilla Ice Cream


Mix together dry ingredients. In a large bowl combine yolks, milk, lemon juice, and oil. Stir into dry ingredients. Fold in the egg whites. Pour batter into hot waffle iron and cook.
Berry Syrup
Pour all ingredients in a saucepan over med high heat. Cook until berries become soft and syrup is thick, about 10 minutes.
Place a waffle on a plate and top with berry syrup topped with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
