Waffles for One or Two"


1 egg
1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking power
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cups flour
3 tablespoons soft shortening


Beat eggs well.
Beat in remaining ingredients.
(This is a thin batter.)
Pour batter from a cup or pitcher into the center of a hot waffle iron. Make sure batter extends into the corners.
Do not leave iron open too long. Waffle is ready when steaming stops.
Lift carefully with fork.
Serve hot with butter and syrup.
